Pascha is here and Christ is Risen!
Christendom is celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Unlike last year, the Orthodox Church celebrates on the same day as the West. This won’t happen again for several years, so enjoy it.
Last year I offered some impressions of my first Orthodox Pascha celebration. In the year since, my family has gone through celebration and tragedy. I’ve used this site to chronicle much of these events, and I’m grateful for having an audience.
Through it all, we are comforted by our faith in the risen Christ. He has trampled death through His own death, and restored our relationship with God. In the words of the Paschal homily of St. John Chrysostom:
He that was taken by death has annihilated it! He descended into hades and took hades captive! He embittered it when it tasted his flesh! And anticipating this Isaiah exclaimed, “Hades was embittered when it encountered thee in the lower regions.” It was embittered, for it was abolished! It was embittered, for it was mocked! It was embittered, for it was purged! It was embittered, for it was despoiled! It was embittered, for it was bound in chains!
I’ve created a Pascha wallpaper for desktop computers, and it’s free to download by clicking the big blue button down below. My subscribers received this download a few days ago, as well as access to all the free downloads I make available.
You can also download a lock screen for your mobile device that I created last year at Pascha. All of these downloads are my own creation, and I hold the copyright. Feel free to share them by linking to the post.
